Count it all joy..
Gotta love those verses in the Bible that leave you saying, “Seriously, Lord?” Here is one of them…
“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything” (James 1:2-4).
The King James Version starts this passage out with, “Count it all joy…” I don’t know about you but when I run into problems I don’t respond joyfully. When I face trials of many kinds, I rarely say, “Well now isn’t this pure joy!” No. I typically respond with fear or anxiety or frustration. But James tells us that we are to consider these trials as joy because the testing of our faith produces perseverance. And then he compels us to let perseverance do its work so that we can be mature and complete.
Every trial, every burden, whether a bump in the road or a mountain, is to grow us spiritually. If we see them for what they are we will be stronger, deeper, more grounded in our faith. We will be solid and will not waver just because a trial comes our way. So whatever is threatening to frustrate you or discourage you today, count it all joy. You’ll be better because of it.
